Welcome to The Nook - a cozy 1890's house in the heart of Tuscaloosa, AL that was transformed into a modern salon! We are David and Emily Summerville, and The Nook is our God given dream come true! The two little ones are Rhett and Rusty, Rusty being the furrier one, and they complete our family. We are so honored to meet you.
We have always believed that hair styling encompassed so much more than just freshening up a haircut. Our dream was to own a salon that would provide a safe place to foster community and connection. We set out to build a place where individuals were affirmed for their beauty both inside and out, and where they could talk about their hopes, dreams, struggles, and sorrows. The main thing you should know about us here at The Nook is that the person behind the chair is not just your stylist, but someone who genuinely cares about you. We hope to be those who, through many cuts and colors, can be known as friends.
Hi! I'm Emily.
I’ve been a cosmetologist since 2009. Actually, 2008 - if you count my mom's kitchen. I don't feel as though my story as a hairstylist is extraordinary. However, I have a major love for the industry and a passion for the people I get to work with. I started out as the "shampoo girl" in high school and haven't turned back since. I'm forever grateful for the stylists who spent time teaching me this craft. It was because of them that I went back to get my instructor's license in hopes of teaching other’s one day. With me, you will not only leave feeling great with a fresh hairstyle, but also immensely loved on and empowered.
Hi! I'm Britanny.
I started out as a receptionist in a salon, and it was there that my interest was sparked for the hair industry. I graduated from the Paul Mitchell school in Hoover 7 years ago, and have been doing hair ever since. I enjoys all kinds of cuts and colors, as well as working with all kinds of people and ages. Most of all, I enjoy meeting new people, hearing their stories, and making each person both LOOK and FEEL special.
Hi! I'm Andi.
As a stylist, I have had the honor of working with so many amazing clients. My mission has always been to serve others. I love making each person not only feel comfortable in the chair, but even more confident when they leave. I studied at the Paul Mitchell School in Birmingham, Al, and have trained under some of the top stylists and educators. Although I have been in this industry for over a decade, I am always learning new techniques to stay in tune with modern trends. Come sit with me - I promise a good conversation, lots of laughter, and an excellent style.
Hi! I'm Lauren.
I am so excited to be back in Tuscaloosa after spending the majority of the last six years in New York City, where I fell in love with this industry. Early on in my career, I developed a refined eye for detail by training at the top schools for hair and make-up including institutions such as Makeup Designer in New York City, and University Academy of Hair Design in Tuscaloosa. I have had the honor to work on photoshoots for major companies such as Redken, Target, AOL, TIME Magazine, Esquire Magazine, and Southern Living. I have also worked with television shows including Mob Wives and Southern Charm. I hope to work with you soon!
Hi! I'm Daphne.
After many years of watching my grandmother do hair and giving my Barbie dolls the most fabulous haircuts, I decided that this was the industry for me. In so many ways, styling hair was always part of my life. I believe we are all created in the image of God, giving each of us our own unique beauty. I find joy in helping others know their beauty and highlighting what makes them stand out. It is my desire to add value to each person that I encounter and I strive to make sure everyone that sits in my chair leaves with a smile on their face. Come see me and let’s make your day a little brighter!
Hi! I'm Carleigh.
I grew up spending summers around my grandmother - a salon owner who had been in the business for 55+ years. It was there that passion for hair and makeup formed. During my senior year at the University of Alabama I knew it was time to put that passion into practice. I began an amazing apprenticeship under Emily Summerville (The Nook Owner), while finishing my degree. Throughout my apprenticeship I have learned so much, and my love for this industry grows with every new day and every new client. Whether it is a fresh new hair cut or a special event, I would love the opportunity to work with you.
Hi! I'm Chaney.
Growing up, my dad was a barber, and in his barbershop is where I fell in love with this industry. And I’m still in love with it. Throughout my career, I have been blessed to travel many great places and meet some amazingly beautiful people. My travels were not only centered around my abilities for doing hair and makeup but also teaching for an international company. Now, I’m here and I consider it another gift to my career. Come see me and experience this place we call The Nook. It’s where we do hair and love people.
